Abstract

In mid-February 2023 , a twelve-member taskforce was assembled to assess the feasibility, practicality, and possibility of creating a Division of Aerospace Engineering under ASOF's Center for Advanced Science and Technology (CAST). The taskforce has used every tool at its disposal to carry out its research and assessment. Team members have held in-person meetings with many of the current entities engaged in this field within Armenia including universities, research institutes and foundations, as well as industry players. Although this work is still in progress, the taskforce has already identified particular needs, synergies, avenues of cooperation, as well as gaps and possible vulnerabilities. Highlights of this ongoing process will be covered in this presentation. In short, the taskforce is ready to propose a "Division of Aerospace" (a Research Center) under ASOF's CAST which would address the identified needs and contribute to creating a viable and sustainable aerospace capability in the Republic of Armenia. The center will pursue three specific tracks: a research track, an educational track, and a "facilities-sharing consortium" track.
